The US Healthcare system is too bloated. It needs to be fixed. It needs to be more inclusive. Medicare comes to mind.

Massachusetts already has universal healthcare. Another thing they have is a lot of academic medical centers which would not benefit under the Dem's plan as much as integrated group practices would.

The new healt care bill taxes will start immediately after passage. Of course in thre or four years when the benefits kick in the prepaid taxes won't be there, they will have be converted to Treasury Bills and used to pay off debt or other government programs. Just like Social Security,Highway Trust Funds etc. the program will be in debt before it ever starts. Then they will have to raise more taxes or increase the nationsl debt.

This whole health bill is just a con game. I am a World War 11 Vet. and after flying 43 missions in the South Pacific I am now considered expendable. Ask not what you can do for your country, ask why did you do it?

I believe the way Medicare payments are calculated will be part of the Senate bill, as will changes to distribution by region, and will begin a path to payment for outcomes and quality -- this is not the Medicare we have known.

Cost-shifting should end also, as I understand it.

Finally, check out Ezra Klein's series on columns in the New York Times. Item by item he compares payment rates for medical services among "first world" countries and from x-rays to doctor fees, without exception, prices iin the US are more than twice that of the other countries.

Then look at the OECD comparative data on these same "rich" countries. The US earned a "D" overall.

We must do better than this.

I think it will be fun to listen to the Senate Republicans who have projected themselves as Medicare's salvation and its unquestionable virtues, turn around and run away as fast as they can. Perfect.
